Start your southern escape in Windsor!  Canada’s most southern city extends a warm welcome to families and offers a host of things to experience. Stroll our spectacular waterfront and take in the Odette Sculpture Park – truly a museum without walls. Remember Boblo? Check out the newest exhibit about the famed amusement park at the Community Museum. Windsor Wood Carving Museum is the only one of its kind in Ontario and features handcrafted sculptures that are incredible. Hands-on activities beckon the curious child in us all at Canada South Science City

Follow the river’s trek west and you’ll arrive in historic Amherstburg. Step back in time to when Canada’s destiny was determined by military action. Reenactors fire muskets and kids can dress up in reproduction costumes. The fine art of tinsmithing is demonstrated at the Park House Museum. Many of the period pieces found at Fort Malden are forged here. As well, pieces have been sent to England and Hollywood. The house is the oldest in the area, originally built near the Rouge River in Michigan. Wait until you hear how it got here! Another key period in our shared history is prior to the Civil War when thousands escaped slavery via the Underground Railroad. History comes alive at the North American Black Historical Museum. If your family loves swimming, nature trails, trout ponds and camping, then Holiday Beach Conservation Area is the place for you. As well, Jellystone Park Camping Resort provides endless family activities all summer long.

This route takes you through another beautiful waterfront town, Kingsville, where you can shop and enjoy great food. History buffs may want to check out Kingsville Historical Park, and the conservationist in your family may want to “meet” Canada’s father of conservation at the Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary. Colasanti's Tropical Gardens features an 18-hole mini-putt, petting zoo, arcade, kiddie rides, candy store and more! Definitely a stop for families. You’ll feel like you’re in the deep south here, surrounded by tropical plants and cactus. Really!

Active families will love Point Pelee National Park. Ride the tram to the Tip of Mainland Canada, or rent a bike and cycle there. Hike, swim or canoe in peaceful inland waterways. Not so active? Share the work in the freighter canoe – the Cattail Cruiser! The whole family fits and everyone shares the paddling.

Experience small-town friendliness and old-fashioned service. Essex features the restored Essex Railway Station, and just a short drive from the business district, look for Fujisawa Zen Garden, an authentic Japanese Zen garden and cultural centre.

You can even take part in an island adventure and ride the ferry to Pelee Island, Canada's southernmost destination. Here you'll enjoy miles of sandy beaches, world-class birding, excellent fishing and more. Don't forget to wave, it's an island tradition!

As you travel along the country roads, try to find the second oldest lighthouse in the province - not on Lake Erie, but actually Lake St. Clair, in the community of Lighthouse Cove.  Our Lake St. Clair shoreline features exceptional fishing and swimming as well, particularly in Lakeshore.

Bring your family to see ours sometime soon. Remember, your trip is passport free, smoke free and hassle free!  For driving directions and other detailed information, please feel free to contact one of our travel counsellors at 1-800-265-3633.
