Amherstburg is situated along the banks of the Detroit River, less than a 30 minute drive southwest of the Windsor/Detroit border. Visit the Fort Malden National Historic Site, Park House Museum, North American Black Historical Museum, Gibson Gallery, Holiday Beach Conservation Area, D'Angelo Estate and Sanson Estate Wineries, and the Marsh Collection.  Visit during the popular Shores of Erie International Wine Festival, or Amherstburg Heritage Homecoming (both taking place in September)!

The Town of Essex, situated on the north shore of Lake Erie, is a unique mix of urban and rural Essex County.  


Essex includes the community of Harrow situated along scenic County Rd.20., where you'll find a number of places for the "antiques hunter" to explore!  

Essex attractions include a series of murals and the historic Railway Station in town, Fujisawa Zen Gardens, The Canadian Transportation Museum & Historic Village, Colio Estates Winery, Essex County Steam & Gas Engine Museum (their annual show takes place in August), and historic John R. Park Homestead, or take in the annual Harrow Fair (Labour Day weekend).  The annual Colchester Walleye Derby takes place in Colchester Harbour on Lake Erie.

Located on the shore of Lake Erie, Kingsville boasts excellent recreational opportunities, a rich heritage, great dining and spa amenities, shopping for treasures of the past and present, and a close proximity to area attractions. 

The world-renowned sanctuary of Jack Miner beckons, as do the award-winning wines of Pelee Island and Alexander Estate Winery.  Spend time with the family at Colasanti's Tropical Gardens or discover local military history at Kingsville Historical Park. After your busy day, gather at the lovely Lakeside Park (home to the winter Fantasy of Lights), and view a gorgeous sunset over the "Port of Appeal".

Sitting on the shores of Lake St. Clair, Lakeshore offers many fantastic recreational activities for both tourists and locals alike.  Belle River is known for great fishing, and often referred to as the Musky Capital of The World!   

A number of marinas provide boating opportunities and amenities, and Belle River Municipal Marina is often the location of a mobile Skate Park.  Lighthouse Cove boasts the second oldest lighthouse in the Province of Ontario.  Pictured above, the Thames River Lighthouse was built in 1818 as a result of the War of 1812 between Canada and the U.S.  Enjoy nearby waterfront dining at The Lighthouse Inn.  Take in the popular Comber Fair, (in August), a county agricultural fair.

This popular community is situated along the banks of the Detroit River. So many marinas dot the coast that the main street is referred to as the "Nautical Mile"! 

 

LaSalle enjoys quite a notorious past.  Fugitive slaves are rumoured to have arrived here after a perilous swim to Freedom. Rumrunners used the river as a highway to transport their illegal cargo.  In the present day, LaSalle offers close proximity to area attractions, great shopping and golfing, numerous opportunities to purchase fresh produce, and the annual Strawberry Festival, and Art in the Woods events!

Leamington is the "Tomato Capital of Canada" and home to the world's largest tomato, which doubles as the tourist information booth! 


Great shopping opportunities abound, as well as dining to suit every taste.   Canada's "Sunparlour" is home to agricultural abundance, and roadside fruit and veg stands are plentiful in season.   Drop into town for the spring Pelee Festival of Birds, the Santa Claus Parade or the Tomato Festival (August).  

Leamington enjoys close proximity to all local attractions and is home to world famous Point Pelee National Park (sandy beaches, recreational trails, canoeing, cycling and birdwatching).  Other great birding opportunities are just down the road at Hillman Marsh and Kopegaron Woods Conservation Areas.

A leisurely drive from Windsor along Lake St. Clair's shoreline, brings you to Tecumseh, at the end of the popular recreational "Ganatchio Trail". Head up Lesperance Road into the town, or Manning Road, for numerous and varied shopping opportunities.  


Enjoy a leisurely picnic under a canopy of trees and view the restored grandstands of another era in one of Essex County's larger recreational spots, Lacasse Park (also home to the annual Tecumseh Corn Festival).


Technically part of our neighbouring County - Chatham-Kent - Wheatley is home of the largest freshwater fishing fleet in North America. You are invited to relax and enjoy the leisurely-paced "good life" at this small fishing village, which retains the friendliness and hospitality of rural Ontario.

 


Numerous nearby conservation areas provide excellent opportunities for birding and "getting back to nature". Wheatley Provincial Park (located on Lake Erie's shore) and other private campgrounds offers camping facilities, and the town also boasts a number of bed and breakfasts.
