“PURSUIT OF PEACE”
DAY 1
9:00 a.m. Depart from your hotel and
drive along the scenic Detroit River to Olde Sandwich Towne, an
area steeped in history, much of which is displayed in beautiful outdoor
murals.
9:30 a.m. Visit the DUFF-BABY HOUSE INTERPRETATION CENTRE.
The home, owned by Loyalist fur trader Alexander Duff, then by the
Honourable Jacques Baby, is Georgian in style and was a centre of activity
and meeting place during the War of 1912 for General Proctor, Colonel
Elliott and Shawnee leader Tecumseh.
11:00 a.m. Arrive at FORT MALDEN NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE,
a key defense post during the War of 1812 and the Rebellion of 1837.
Stroll through the peaceful 12-acre riverfront park, view the exhibits and
visit the restored army barrack.
12:00 p.m. Time for a delicious lunch at a nearby Amherstburg
restaurant.
1:30 p.m. Proceed to the PARK HOUSE MUSEUM to hear the
fascinating story of how its Loyalist owner dismantled and floated this
French frame log house down the Detroit River in 1799. The house not only
served as a store, but also housed American troops during the War of 1812.
Stop in at the tinsmith's.
2:30 p.m. A stop at GIBSON GALLERY, formerly the Michigan
Central Railroad Station. This one-story, red brick building is now an art
gallery offering an eclectic selection of original art, and touring
exhibits from the likes of the Royal Ontario Museum.
3:30 p.m. On your return trip to Windsor, take in a guided tour of ST.
JOHN’S ANGLICAN CHURCH in Olde Sandwich Towne. The original wooden
church (circa 1802) was burned down by General Harrison's Kentucky
Regiment in 1812. The graveyard has stories to tell!
4:30 p.m. Arrive at your hotel where you can freshen up
before dinner. Enjoy an evening on your own by visiting one of our fine
dining establishments or take in the excitement of casino gaming or
harness racing. Good luck!
DAY 2
9:00 a.m. Proceed to Bothwell via Hwy.401 to Thamesville.
10:30 a.m. A guided tour of FAIRFIELD MUSEUM AND THE AVENUE OF

the Thames and displays of Moravian history, settlers and Indian cultures.

setting.
1:00 p.m. Return to Windsor via scenic Hwy.2.
3:00 p.m. Visit WINDSOR’S COMMUNITY MUSEUM - another centre of
activity during the War of 1812 that saw the likes of American General
Hull, British Major General Isaac Brock and Shawnee leader Tecumseh step
through its doors. Hear about the final incident in the Battle of Windsor,
fought in the Baby orchard in 1838.
4:00 p.m. Return to your hotel.
